March 6th Special City Election

Please mark your calendars now for the upcoming Special City Election on March 6th, 2018.

As some of you may be aware, Dallas County voters approved a 1-cent Local Option Sales and Services tax increase in November. As a result of some of these Dallas County cities sharing a boarder with Polk County or even sprawling into Polk County, similar ballot measures will appear during the March 6th Special Election across the County.

During the December City Council meeting, your City Council approved ballot language for submittal to the Polk County Election Office for inclusion on the March 6th Special Election. The City Council recognized a need for these additional revenues in the hopes of funding much needed projects within the City, such as parks and recreational improvement projects and infrastructure improvement projects. Below, you will find links to a copy of the ballot measure as it will appear on March 6th as well as a link from the Des Moines Register. According to the Des Moines Register, the Iowa Department of Revenue estimates that Elkhart would receive approximately $97,000 in additional revenues to fund projects.
